Cabruêra band was formed in 1998 by four musicians from Campina Grande, Paraíba, a town in north-eastern Brazil, with Arthur Person (voice, guitar and melodica), Pablo Ramires (drums and percussion), Leo Marino (guitars) and Edy Gonzaga (bass). The quartet also features appearances by John Henry (trumpet) and Rodrigo (trombone). They play a fusion of rhythms that unites the influence of traditional Brazilian north-eastern music with African roots, together with a twist of rock, funk and reggae and dance.
“Cabruêra” refers to a bunch of goats or “Lampiano” in Portuguese, who often chew whatever they can find in the struggle to survive in the desert of north east Brazil. Cabruêra the group move beyond bossa and samba, spicing up rural rhythms with urban styles you love to groove to, and see themselves as the wild goats who chew different cultures and rhythms such as coco, ciranda, embolado, forro, maracas, samba.
